Four women arrested following viral motorcycle video

Colombo, May 11 (Daily Mirror) - Buttala Police have arrested four women after a video showing three young women riding dangerously on a motorcycle without safety helmets went viral on social media. 

The incident attracted widespread public attention and prompted an immediate police investigation into the matter.

According to police, the video showed three women traveling on a single motorcycle in a reckless manner along a public road. Following the circulation of the footage online, officers carried out investigations using information gathered from the video and identified the motorcycle owner, the rider, and the two passengers involved in the incident. The suspects are reported to be residents of Colombage Ara, Hidikiwula, and Unawatuna.

Further inquiries revealed that the 23-year-old rider did not possess a valid driving license at the time of the incident. Police said that several charges have been filed against her, including operating a motorcycle without a valid license, carrying more than one passenger on a motorcycle, riding without protective helmets, and reckless and negligent driving.

Police also said that the registered owner of the motorcycle will face legal action for allegedly permitting an unlicensed individual to operate the vehicle. Both the rider and the owner are scheduled to be produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court today.
