Colombo, May 02 (Daily Mirror) - The final rites of Ranga Nishantha Rajapaksa, the suspended Assistant Director of the External Resources Department of the Ministry of Finance, are scheduled to take place this afternoon, May 2.

Rajapaksa was found dead under suspicious circumstances on the morning of April 30 in the garden of his residence. His body was discovered by family members near a banana tree, showing several injuries, including cuts to his leg and arm. A small knife was recovered from the scene by investigating officers.

Following a comprehensive investigation, a four-member committee confirmed yesterday, that the death was a suicide. The committee concluded that the injuries found on the body were self-inflicted, bringing clarity to the initial uncertainty surrounding the incident.

At the time of his suspension, Mr. Rajapaksa was facing an inquiry regarding the disappearance of USD 2.5 million from the Ministry of Finance, an incident linked to an alleged cyber heist.
