Colombo, May 11 (Daily Mirror) - An 18 percent increase in electricity tariffs for consumers with a monthly electricity consumption of more than 180 units has come into effect from today.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) said that the revised tariff applies across all sectors, including households, religious places of worship, government institutions, public works, hotels, and industries.

Commission Chairman Professor K.P.L. Chandralal confirmed that the adjustment is part of the approved tariff revision and is applicable uniformly to all eligible consumer categories.

However, representatives of the industrial sector have raised concerns over the increase, stating that the 18 percent hike in electricity tariffs will have a significant impact on production costs and overall economic activity. They warn that it could place additional pressure on industries already facing rising operational expenses.
