Environment Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe, who arrived at the Katunayake International Airport last night to leave for South Korea, was denied boarding the aircraft as he did not have the COVID vaccination card in his possession to confirm he was given vaccination.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and Dr. Jasinghe left for South Korea to attend the fourth Asia-Pacific Environment Ministerial and Environmental Institutions Meeting of the United Nations Environment Programme which will be held on October 6 and 7.
Therefore, Dr. Jasinghe had to wait at the airport until he was sent the vaccination record.
He said he had forgotten to bring the card along with him as was not able to locate it in his residence by the time he left.
However, he received a copy of the vaccination record via his WhatsApp account from the National Hospital, Colombo and managed to board the aircraft.
Any passenger who fails to produce the COVID vaccination card will not be allowed to enter the airport, since this procedure has been made mandatory by the health authorities. (T.K.G. Kapila)
