NPPers receives ‘Santhosham’ from leading businessman following allowing solar project: MP



Colombo, June 25 (Daily Mirror) - A group of NPP politicians have received a santhosham from a leading businessman for allowing a solar power project on a land in the reserved forest area in Polonnaruwa, opposition MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake alleged in Parliament yesterday.

“Some 50 acres in the Sudukanda reserved forest area in the Polonnaruwa district is being cleared to set up a solar power project,” the MP said.

“The project belongs to one of the handful of businessmen who have associated with the NPP government. Present government has associated with a handful of businessmen who are involved in the power and energy sector, involved in importation of BYD vehicles. It’s one of these businessmen who have offered Santhosham to NPP politicians for allowing the solar power project in Polonnaruwa. This handful of businessmen got hold of those who ruled this country in the past and got things done. Sri Lankan people never wanted the present government to engage with these businessmen,” he added.

The MP said a number of unwanted issues have popped up because of the government’s action.

Coming up with some issues, the Minister alleged that a junior level doctor is to be appointed as the director of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital as she is a supporter of NPP, while inferior quality ostomy bags. These bags he said have caused the itching of the abdomen. Coming up with another issue, the MP said, some hotels have been kept closed for months because of the delay on the part of the tourist board to renew their licenses.
