Colombo, August 4 (Daily Mirror) - An intensified countrywide crackdown by the Sri Lanka Police, Police Special Task Force (STF), and Tri-Forces has led to the arrest of 110 drunk drivers and legal action against 3,202 individuals for reckless driving and other traffic violations on expressways.
The operation, conducted on August 3, is part of a broader effort to curb narcotics distribution and dismantle organized criminal networks across the country.
According to police, 6,062 officers from the Sri Lanka Police, STF, and Tri-Forces were deployed in special search operations. A total of 25,870 individuals, 10,423 vehicles, and 7,846 motorcycles were inspected during the day-long raids.
The crackdown also resulted in the arrest of 968 individuals for drug-related offences and 23 suspects directly linked to organized crime. Authorities executed 371 arrest warrants and seized three locally manufactured illegal firearms.
The Ministry Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs announced that such search operations will now be conducted daily under its direct supervision, with continued support from law enforcement and military personnel to combat drugs and organized crime countrywide.
