Cardinal calls for independent prosecution office for Easter attack probe

Colombo, April 21 (Daily Mirror) - Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith today called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to establish an independent prosecution office specifically to hold accountable those responsible for the Easter Sunday bomb attacks that took place six years ago.

Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the sixth anniversary of the attacks, the Cardinal also urged the government to create a new society free from private hit squads, white vans and illegal detention centres. 

“The political culture that has prevailed has contributed to the Easter Sunday bomb attacks,” the Cardinal said.
