Colombo, June 25 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet has decided to appoint a sub-committee to assess and prepare for potential challenges Sri Lanka may face due to the escalating military situation in the Middle East.
Recognising the wide-ranging implications of the conflict-including potential effects on foreign employment, energy security, trade and tourism-the Cabinet has emphasised the need for proactive planning.
The newly appointed Cabinet sub-committee will be chaired by Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath. Other members include Ministers Samantha Vidyarathne, Wasantha Samarasinghe and Kumara Jayakody.
In support of this sub-committee, a secondary committee comprising Ministry secretaries will also be formed. Their mandate is to study the evolving military situation in the Middle East, identify sectors at risk, and recommend timely measures to the Cabinet.
