COVID death rate increases to 1.5%

In the wake of the number of people who succumb to COVID-19 is on the rise, the Fatality Rate in Sri Lanka has increased to 1.5%.

The death rate, which was around 1.3% has now increased to 1.5%. According to the Department of Government Information, 1.5% of virus infections end in deaths.

Sri Lanka recorded its highest number of deaths per day yesterday (7), which was 98 taking the death toll to 4,919.

According to the Health Ministry, the majority of the deaths are of people above 60 years of age. Nearly 75% of deaths are of people above 60 while 23.81 are of people between 30 - 59. Also, 1.22% of deaths are of people below 30.

Health authorities are of the opinion that 90% of people who die of the virus is of unvaccinated people.

When analysing the deaths gender wise, a total number of 2,853 males have died of the virus while 2,066 females have lost their lives to the virus as of yesterday. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
