CESS levy imposed over 600 items amended from Nov.15

The government has change the rate of the CESS levy imposed on over 600 items with effect from yesterday (15).

President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued the relevant government notification on November 14 in accordance with the powers conferred on him by Section 14 of the Export Development Act No. 40 of 1979.

Meanwhile, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said, that there is no price increase for essential commodities due to the amendment of the cess tax.

He pointed out that none of the 120 items listed as essential commodities will be affected. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
