The Electricity Board had collected Rs 75 million through fines through raids on fraudulent electricity connections in 2022, CEB Additional General Manager Eng. K. A. K. Kolonne said citing a report filed by CEB.
He said the report was issued by the CEB Special Investigation Unit to combat electricity fraud.
“A total of Rs. 75,080,652.57 had been recovered from cases relating to electricity meters and hooking up electricity lines,” he said.
“According to the report, Rs. 72,393,474.80 was collected in 1,114 raids related to issues with electricity meters.
“Rs. 2,687,177.77 was collected as court fines and the costs caused to the CEB for 188 raids related to tapping up to power lines,” said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
