CCTV at Aravinda de Silva’s residence was functional but not recording

Colombo, May 14 (Daily Mirror) - Former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena’s suspicious death took place at the residence of Aravinda de Silva, where the CCTV cameras were operational, but the system had not been recording footage for a long period and no footage of the location where the death occurred had been captured by the CCTV system, the Colombo Crimes Division informed Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today.

The magisterial witness examination into the suspicious death of former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena was held today before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena, during which six other witnesses testified before court.

Presenting a further report before court today, the Colombo Crimes Division stated that on May 12, the Crimes Division had obtained a search warrant to inspect another residence belonging to the deceased and had carried out a search of the house. Thereafter, a laptop and several other documents found at the residence were produced before court today as case productions.

The Magistrate questioned the investigating officer as to whether CCTV footage from the location where the death occurred had been taken into police custody. In response, the officer stated that the CCTV cameras at the residence of Aravinda de Silva, where the death occurred, were operational but informed court that the system had not been recording footage. 

However, the officer further informed court that all CCTV footage from nearby houses showing the entrance and exit routes to the residence had been taken into police custody.
