Colombo, June 10 (Daily Mirror) - Buddhism made Sri Lankans a cultured population and that culture should be preserved for the sake of new generations, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

“The the arrival of Arahath Mahinda who introduced Buddhism to this nation changed its population and brought reformation. It therefore made Sri Lankans a cultured lot. This culture should be preserved at all costs,” President Dissanayake told the national Poson festival which was held at the historical Mihintale temple today.

“The Chief incumbent of Mihintale takes great strides to preserve the historical temple. He does it with aggression at times while being kind at the same time. However, the Venerable thera should be thanked for his role,” the President said.

“One cannot hold a Poson festival while forgetting Mihintale,” he added.
