Colomob, Feb. 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Bill to abolish MPs’ pensions was approved in Parliament of Sri Lanka without a vote at the third reading.
Amendments proposed by Ravi Karunanayake and Chamara Sampath Dassanayake were rejected.
The proposals included removing the retrospective effect of the Bill and allowing pensions for MPs over 65 years of age.
A division was called on the amendment proposed by MP Dassanayake, with 152 members voting against it and four in favour.
Independent MP Ramanathan Archchuna voted with the government on this occasion.
