The low pressure area currently in the south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify further in to a depression during next 36 hours and move West-Northwestwards towards North Tamil Nadu (TN), closer to North coast of Sri Lanka, the Meteorology Department said.
They said under the influence of the aforementioned low pressure area, heavy showers or thundershowers would occur over most parts of the island.
Heavy showers about 150 mm are likely in Northern, North-central, North-western and Western provinces. Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Trincomalee district.
Meanwhile, strong winds up to 40 to 50 Kmph can be expected over the island, they said.
Therefore, general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers, the Department added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
