A shipment of 37,300 MT of diesel has arrived in the country and will be unloaded today, Energy Ministry Secretary K.D.R. Olga said.
She told the Daily Mirror that 7,000 MT of Super Diesel and 30,300 MT of Auto Diesel would be unloaded and 8,000 MT of diesel will be released for power generation.
Meanwhile, Chief Government Whip and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said the fuel shipment arrived in the country would provide be an uninterrupted fuel and power supply in the country during the month.
The President had introduced a procedure to ensure a continuous fuel supply and advised it should be implemented immediately, he said.
However, the power interruptions would continue for another couple of days, and the President has instructed not to impose power cuts after Saturday (5) and ordered to supply sufficient volume of fuel to thermal power stations.
During the discussion, the President took direct decisions and allowed adequate funds. Therefore, people do not have to wait in queues any more to pump fuel.
Minister Fernando requested the people not to panic and refill their vehicle tanks, as continuous fuel will be supplied throughout the year.
Meanwhile, Minister Fernando said there were no plans to increase the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) fuel prices in line with the recent fuel price hike by Lanka IOC.
Power Minister Gamini Lokuge said that a fuel shipment has arrived and thereby, there would be an uninterrupted fuel supply in the country during the rest of the month. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
