About 130 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees have been taken into custody by the Tuni rural police.

According to Peddapuram DSP K. Kumar, the refugees, housed in different camps in Chennai and surrounding areas, had came to Tuni about a week ago and were moving suspiciously in the Talupulamma Lova shrine and adjacent places.

The police on Wednesday called all the refugees and enquired about their identity cards.

“Some of them have cards and others have said they left cards in their camps in Chennai. We are verifying their antecedents,” the DSP said.
