About 1,300 container loads of essential commodities imported to the country are stagnant in the Colombo port for three months, the importers said.
A spokesman for the Essential Commodities Importers' Association said the situation has arisen as the banks are not releasing the required dollars.
The importers said that the container loads of essential goods such as dhal, sugar, garlic, sprats, canned fish and milk powder were among those that stuck in the port. (Yohan Basura, Ranjan Kasturi and Mahinda Nissanaka)
