June.19 (Mirror Sport) - Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has described Sri Lanka as one of the world's finest holiday destinations, praising the island's natural beauty and his long-standing connection with the country.
Speaking in Colombo on Tuesday, Akram said Sri Lanka remains one of his favourite places despite travelling extensively throughout his illustrious cricket career.
The 59-year-old, who first visited the island in 1985, said he has returned many times over the past four decades as a player, commentator and tourist. During his latest visit, which included filming a television commercial, he was particularly impressed by the scenery in Galle and the misty central highlands.
Akram said he was surprised Sri Lanka is not already regarded as one of the world's leading tourism destinations and revealed that he plans to visit again, with the East Coast high on his list.
