What about an end to gun violence?

The incumbent government’s attempt to eradicate drugs is commendable given the fact that they have pointed out ways in which the drug network has infiltrated into the Police and other law enforcement sectors. The President’s speech during the government’s anti-drug campaign launched under the theme ‘A Nation United – National Mission’highlighted the grave reality pertaining to the drug culture. He revealed how the youth have become victims of the drug mafia, ruining their dreams and future. Apart from drugs,  another dangerous situation factor is gun violence, which again has been an issue that successive regimes failed to address. While the blame was always put on tensions between the underworld, one has considerable doubts about who would be responsible for the life of innocent people who may become victims of these tensions. There have been instances of assassins missing their targets and killing innocent bystanders. The shooting at the WeligamaPradeshiya Sabha took place on a public day where many people visit the authority premises to get their work done. Another shooting was reported at the AmbalangodaMunicipal council premises on Tuesday (4). Therefore,  the government should step up it’s game and look at ways of bringing down gun violence around the country.
