Sri Lanka should protect its sovereignty above all

Growing cases of Israeli tourists showing aggressive behaviours towards locals have been reported, especially from the country down South. Certain areas in Ahangama have been dominated by Israeli-run hospitals establishments, employing people from their own communities. Credible evidence suggests that some employees are Israel Defence Force officials. What is ironical is the fact that Sri Lanka should maintain its non-aligned position without favouring one country or the other. Despite showing solidarity with Palestine, Sri Lanka is now looking at expanding relations with Israel, sending people involved in the gem and jewellery trade to explore opportunities in Israel. Most Israeli establishments don’t bring money to the country and concerns have been raised as to why Sri Lanka has accommodated their places of worship and gone to the extent of providing security 24/7 following the security alert on Arugam Bay. Israel attack on Palestine on Tuesday killed at least 400 individuals along the Gaza Strip during the month of Ramadan. While people continue to worry about the plight of people living along the Gaza Strip and Israeli occupation in Gaza, the fact that a country like Sri Lanka continuing to accommodate these individuals is a concern. On the other hand many of them have overstayed their visas and are running illegal businesses. The government should safeguard the sovereignty of its people as mentioned in its manifesto. Sri Lanka is open to any and all people but they need to respect the law of this country first!
