The Board of Trustees of Jamiul Ashroff Jumma Masjid, located at No. 99 Belmont Street, Colombo 12, together with concerned residents of the area, wish to bring to the attention of Mr. Sujith Priyantha, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Keselwatte Police Station, a matter of growing public concern.
It has been consistently observed that a group of youths gathers at the Wilson Street–Oilman Street junction during late-night hours, from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. These individuals engage in disruptive behavior, including loud and offensive conversations, the use of obscene language, and the consumption of narcotics inside parked three-wheelers and other vehicles.
This persistent activity has caused significant distress to mosque staff and residents of the surrounding area. The disturbances not only disrupt the peace but also raise serious concerns about safety and public order.
We respectfully urge the Keselwatte Police to deploy regular night patrols in this viscinity to deter such activities and restore a sense of security and calm to the neighborhood.
We also encourage OICs of other divisions to take proactive measures, as similar incidents are reportedly becoming increasingly common in other urban areas as well.
