With the World Cup T20 around the corner, the actual state of the Premadasa stadium spreads a very poor message to the world.
The wash rooms were in a very bad condition, and some of the other facilities were poor. The buildings near and around the stadium were in very bad condition. On TV they show the beautiful city with lights and five-star hotels but spectators, both local and foreign, witnesses the other side. Probably the Sri Lanka Cricket Board do not see these as they watch the match comfortably sitting in the air conditioned boxes and may not be aware of the real conditions at the ground level. Months ahead the authorities should visit and inspect and also they should have staff to conduct inspection rounds to ensure that everything is perfect. Though most parts of the present Colombo city is clean, the facilities at the Premadasa stadium must improve. The CMC has the authority to request the building owners to maintain their premises.
We must be worthy hosts. Hope some of these will be looked into at all the grounds that will stage the World Cup.
