Postal delivery – at snail’s pace?

My grandson Hazim Shiraz, a Grade 3 student at Asoka College, Colombo 10 was eager to experience firsthand how traditional postal delivery works. As part of a small learning experiment, I purchased an envelope and a Rs. 50.00 stamp for him. He drew a picture of his youngest sister, Shaza, carefully placed it inside the envelope, affixed the stamp, and personally dropped it into the  post box near our residence on the 23rd of June, 2025.  I explained to him that the letter should typically reach his residence  within 2–3 days. However, after several days had passed with no sign of the letter, he asked me to raise a complaint. The drawing finally arrived at his own residence only on the 15th of July—a full 22 days later.

This raises serious concerns about the efficiency and reliability of our current postal system. Is such a delay now the norm for standard mail? Or are our postal operations truly moving at a snail’s pace?

Over to the Postmaster General for a response.
