For the third time in a row, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has issued erroneous monthly bills, raising serious concerns over its billing accuracy and accountability.
April 2025 Bill: The bill incorrectly reflects zero units of consumption, despite the actual usage being 20 units, which should total Rs. 2,301.00. Instead, a charge of Rs. 1,140.33 has been levied.
May 2025 Bill: The bill wrongly states 40 units consumed and levies a staggering Rs. 8,117.47, whereas the actual consumption was only 20 units, amounting again to Rs. 2,301.00.
The combined billing for April and May should have been Rs. 4,602.00, but instead totals Rs. 8,117.47—almost double the accurate amount.
Furthermore, a cousin of mine residing on Ferguson’s Road, Colombo 15, who has not yet occupied his recently purchased house, received a shocking bill of Rs. 308,000.00 despite zero consumption.
Both cases fall under the purview of the same Area Engineer.

These repeated billing inaccuracies are unacceptable. I urge the Area Engineer, to urgently investigate and rectify these discrepancies, and to ensure that future billing is accurate, transparent, and fair.
