I read an article published in the Daily Mirror online dated April 23, under the title ‘If only every street dog in the world was treated like Aloka.’
The contents clearly stated and it is the unfortunate situation of street dogs and cats as well (including puppies and kittens) in Sri Lanka.
This situation should change, whereas especially disabled dogs and cats including puppies and kittens should be accommodated and looked after till the end of their lifetime.
If someone sees a puppy or a kitten left without any care on the roadside or any place they come across, there is no place to handover them for adoption. Normally, what we hear from adopting centres is no space available to accommodate them.
As a future measure and in order to make a change for the wellbeing of stray dogs and cats, all animal lovers should come together, whereas a fundraising could be organised (with the support of government and private sectors jointly, if they are willing to do so) to find a suitable place for accommodating these innocent animals and to look after them in a proper manner. If not, this situation will remain the same. This is only my suggestion.
