A popular teacher who recently gained much attention for ‘renting out’ a police squad for her grand scale scholarship awarding ceremony at BMICH is now at large as she is being hunted down for allegedly assaulting a domestic working at her education institute.
The public are once again left to doubt the capacity of the Sri Lankan police force at this point. It surely seems to be another hunting spree similar to how the entire police was preoccupied with looking for the now suspended IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon. He later presented himself in courts while his fellow policemen were looking around for him. Surely the police is more capable than this as Sri Lanka has some of the best in service. However, due to politicisation and corruption, the entire police force is at the receiving end of the blame game.
Other than a handful of police officers who accept bribes at every possible occasion, there are many who stick to their roles and responsibilities and carry out an exemplary service. In this instance, perhaps this particular teacher has political connections and that is why she is still in hiding. But this is exactly the concern among the public because this government assumed power on a promise that they would end nepotism, corruption and cronyism.
The public is watching with eyes wide open and this time, they cannot be fooled!
