Don’t Leave Without Your Receipt – It Could Cost You!

Recently, I had an unforgettable experience (on my way home!) at a leading supermarket close to my residence, which I believe is worth sharing for the benefit of other customers.

After purchasing a packet of powdered milk, biscuits, watermelon, plantains, and a few other items, I handed the cashier a Rs. 5,000 note. He returned the balance of around Rs. 2,000, which I failed to check properly at the time. To my surprise, instead of handing me the receipt, he casually tossed it under his table. It was only when I specifically asked for the receipt that he gave it to me.

When I got home, I reconciled the receipt with the cash in my pocket and noticed something unusual. The receipt indicated that I should have received Rs. 2,700 as balance, but I only had approximately Rs. 2,600 – a shortfall of Rs. 100.

I returned to the supermarket and informed the cashier about the discrepancy. To his credit, he promptly refunded the missing Rs. 100 without any hesitation.

This experience taught me a valuable lesson: always collect and check your receipt before leaving the counter. It’s important to ensure that the balance given to you matches the amount on the receipt. Mistakes can happen, and being vigilant can save you from unnecessary inconvenience.
