Back to the queues?

People are in panic mode due to the shortage of salt and they blame the government for not being able to rectify the matter before it aggravated. Sri Lankans may not want to go down the same road as in 2022, languishing in queues to purchase essential commodities. This government assumed power offering a bagful of promises. People are awaiting to see changes and the delivering of the promises. It’s appreciated that this regime campaigned on ending corruption, but more than corruption people are looking for some relief.

The CEB is looking at increasing electricity tariffs. There are over 100,000 connections which were disconnected as people were unable to pay their bills. People don’t have finances to pay utility bills as they spend all the money on essential items. Cost of dry rations hasn’t changed despite lapses in imposing control prices on rice, dhal, coconuts etc. People are still finding it difficult to earn a considerable monthly income to put food on the table and to provide for families. Therefore the government has a responsibility to fulfil those promises made to voters. Already there seems to be issues in establishing majority power as many voters stayed away from the LG polls. We have seen what happens when a government becomes unpopular. Therefore we hope that citizens may not have to go down the same road and demand for another system change!
