Another cycle of price hikes

The increase in fuel prices will most likely affect prices of essential goods over the coming days. But this is not a surprise given the prevailing situation in the Middle East. Bus fares are likely to be increased. Three-wheeler associations have requested to increase the fare for the first kilometer by Rs. 20. People have no choice but to pump fuel and do their daily activities. The government did request people to limit ‘unwanted’ travels but people  have their priorities. The government did minimise fuel queues by bringing the odd-even number plate system and issues pertaining to downloading the QR codes too,  have been resolved to a greater extent. People will have to face the reality until the situation subsides. This war is likely to affect food security in a major manner given the delay in importing fertiliser. This is something that the government needs to focus on at this point because,  without fertiliser, farmers may not be able to carry out agricultural activities resulting in a food crisis. Therefore,  rather than worrying about immediate impacts,  the government now needs to concentrate on long term impacts and to prepare itself for more difficult times.
