A heartfelt letter to President AKD

As you are aware, the rising cost of living in our beloved country has become an increasingly urgent issue, placing an overwhelming strain on families and individuals.

The prices of essential goods, including food, fuel, and medicine, have skyrocketed, and many of us are struggling to make ends meet. The working class, in particular, faces immense challenges as wages remain stagnant while prices continue to rise. The high cost of basic necessities is leading to increased poverty, hunger, and an overall decline in the quality of life for many Sri Lankans.

In light of these hardships, I respectfully urge your government to consider implementing targeted relief measures that can provide immediate support to those most affected by the cost of living crisis. Some possible steps that could be taken include:

1. Subsidies or Direct Cash Transfers

2. Price Control Measures on Essential Goods

3. Strengthening Social Safety Nets

4. Support for Small Businesses

5. Improved Public Transportation

I understand that these are challenging times and that the road to recovery may not be easy. However, it is critical that we take immediate and effective steps to safeguard the well-being of our people. As the leader of this nation, your support and leadership in addressing this issue will go a long way in easing the burden on countless Sri Lankans.

We, as citizens, are confident that with your leadership and determination, Sri Lanka can emerge from these difficult times stronger and more resilient.

C W R Martyn
