The Supreme Court is the Apex court that is deemed to deliver justice to long-suffering litigants (it takes an average of 20 years to reach the Supreme Court with our cases) by concluding the arguments component of their appeal cases. But most cases are postponed each time, with the judges simply stating that we cannot reach a conclusion in this case. Litigants lose 7 to 8 months of their lives with each postponement, and due to no fault of theirs. This happens mostly in civil cases, as fundamental rights cases consume the maximum time. Furthermore, most judges do not conduct the afternoon session.
Suggestions:
1. Hear arguments which have already been postponed more than 3 times.
2. Avoid listing Fundamental Rights cases with other cases.
3. Limit the time given for each argument.
4. Provide opportunity for bench judgments where possible to save time for the litigants.
5. Hold the afternoon session also.
