Youth who attacked luxury vehicles with sharp weapon identified as heavy drug addict

The 29-year-old youth who attacked four vehicles with a sharp weapon at Battaramulla Diyatha Uyana and Ethul Kotte main road has been identified as a heavy drug addict. Police revealed that he had previously been taken into custody for excessive drug use and, after being sent for rehabilitation at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre by court order, had been released.

The suspect, a resident of the Ragama area, was produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Nuwan Kaushalaya yesterday (13). Police informed the court that traces of ice (crystal meth) and heroin were found in his body during a medical examination.  

Following the proceedings, the magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded until January 22 and instructed the police to submit a progress report regarding the incident to the court.
