Woman killed, husband injured in wild elephant attack

A woman died and her husband received serious injuries when they were hit by a wild elephant that raided their paddy field in Siripura in Polonnaruwa. They were watching the paddy field from the watch hut in the paddy field when the wild elephant hit them.   

The woman died at the scene and her husband was admitted to Dehiattakandiya Divisional Hospital.   The deceased D. M.Yasomenika (68) was a resident of Kalukele in Siripura and mother of three children. Residents of the area said a marauding herd from the nearby forest often roamed into the village and destroyed cultivated land and paddy fields and that they are living in constant fear of possible danger to their life.  Siripura Police are conducting further investigations.
