Viet Nam, Sri Lanka to strengthen bilateral cooperation in energy sector

The Ambassador of Viet Nam to Sri Lanka, Trinh Thi Tam, recently paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Energy of Sri Lanka, Eng. Kumara Jayakody,  to exchange views on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector—one of the key pillars for economic relations between the two countries in the coming period.

At the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the long-standing traditional friendship between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka, built on political trust, solidarity, and mutual support over many decades. Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam emphasised that while current economic and trade cooperation between the two countries remains modest, there is significant potential for expansion if priority sectors are identified and effective coordination mechanisms are established.

She also recalled the recent official visit of the President of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam, during which the leaders of both countries agreed to work towards increasing bilateral trade to USD 1 billion in the coming years, highlighting energy as a priority sector to support this goal.
