Victoria, Randenigala and Rantambe reservoirs started spilling over last morning
Deputy Director General of Digana office of Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority D. M. Dharmadasa said last morning that the three reservoirs were spilling over owing to the heavy rain experienced in the catchments.
He said spill water from the reservoirs is being released to Mahaweli river through Minipe and that it could be increased depending on the rainfall.
He said spill water from Loggalaoya, Diyabanaoya, Hepolaoya and Uphitiya tanks are being released to the Mahaweli river.
He warned that the water level in the Mahaweli river would further rise and that the people living in the low lying areas of the river should be cautious of any possible flood threat.
The Deputy Director General further said Kalwewa and Kandalama tanks were spilling over and that Bowathenna, Ibbankatuwa, Moragahathenna and Kaluganga reservoirs were on the verge of
spill level.
