Tree falls on trishaw, driver dead

A huge Mara tree hanging over Mawanella-Rambukkana road at Talagolla in Beddewela had fallen on a moving trishaw, causing the death of a passenger and injuries to three others including a two-year-old child. 

The deceased Karandana Pedige Nishantha (38) was a resident of Kappagoda in Mawanella and the driver of the trishaw. 

The accident had occurred on Sunday night during heavy rain experienced in the area. The police and the army, with great difficulty, evacuated the injured from the wreck and rushed them to hospital. However, the driver was pronounced already dead. 

Mawanella Police are conducting further investigations.
