The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) claimed that people in rural areas are being robbed by three-wheelers when transporting passengers, and therefore it is needed to assign single-door buses.
“There is a need to assign more single-door buses. Three-wheelers charge a higher amount of money from passengers for short-distance travel.
“Therefore, we have the opportunity to assign single-door buses on roads in rural areas. A lengthy discussion was held with the Transport Ministry secretary to assign such buses.
We receive complaints that people in rural areas are even unable to visit hospitals without paying higher charges.
“Therefore, the LPBOA requested the Transport Ministry to grant permission to import small buses, at least to accommodate 10 seats,” said Gemunu Wijerathne.
