A tense atmosphere prevailed near a filling station in Vishwamadu in Kilinochchi on Saturday night (18) due to a clash between the army and people waiting for fuel. It is alleged that the unruly situation had erupted when a group of individuals obstructed the duty of the army personnel and assaulted the officials with bottles.
Police said six individuals including three army personnel had been injured and a military vehicle damaged in the incident. The injured army personnel were admitted to the Kilinochchi hospital and the civilians to the Mancholai hospital. The situation had been brought under control by a contingent of army personnel that arrived and the police . They had opened fire in the air to quell the situation. Meanwhile Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian S.Sridharan had rushed to the scene to look into the incident. Pudukuduiruppu Police are conducting further investigations.
