Stash of hidden arms and ammunition recovered at Vakarai

A stash of hidden arms and ammunition including RPG ammunition were recovered by the STF during a search operation at Vakarai yesterday.   

Police said the ordnance recovered near the Semby lagoon included 38 RPG grenades, 37 RPG chargers, five live hand grenades.   

A senior STF official said they have evidence of location of a LTTE camp at the location during the war. He said steps would be taken to diffuse the live ammunition.   

A team of STF personnel had carried out the search operation on the instructions of Trincomalee Zonal STF officer ASP Sanjaya Attanayaka.
