Sritharan publicly declares readiness to resign as MP if accusations are substantiated

• MP alleges decision to strip him of his position was unjust, and that the leader and General Secretary of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi are making decisions unilaterally

Member of Parliament S. Sritharan has stated that he is ready to step down from his parliamentary position if the claim made by his party’s General Secretary, M. A. Sumanthiran, that he voted eight times in the past to appoint military personnel to positions, is proven.   

He made this statement during an interview on television, in response to allegations and action taken by the party, claiming that he voted in favour of a former military officer during the vote to appoint the new Auditor General.   

Sumanthiran had accused Sritharan of not voting alongside the government for the first time, but of having previously voted in support of the government on eight occasions. He also stated that the Central Executive Committee of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi had questioned Sritharan regarding this matter.   

As a result, MP S. Sritharan was removed from his position as the Parliamentary Group Leader of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi, and Shanakiyan Rasamannickam was appointed to the post.   

Meanwhile, MP S. Sritharan has alleged that the decision to strip him of his position was unjust, and that the leader and General Secretary of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi are making decisions unilaterally.
