Sixteen reservoirs reach spill level

Sixteen reservoirs have reached spill level while gates of 11 reservoirs have been opened, Department of Irrigation said yesterday. 

Mahawilachchiya, Mahakandura, Namal Oya, Ekgal Oya, Pannalgama, Rootikulama, Badulla Tank, Mundeni Aru, Tissa Wewa, Weerawila Tank, Dewahuwa Tank, Wemedilla Tank, Kala Oya, Dambulu Oya, Kirindi Oya, Wan Ella, Morawewa, Mahadivul Wewa has reached spill level as of last afternoon. 

Gates in Tempitiya, Bomuruella, Demodara Tank, Dehigama Tank, Weligahakandiya, Kaddumurivu Tank, Saddathissa Tank, Badulu Oya, Mallipotha and Peramadduwa Tank were opened. 

However, the Department of Irrigation Director H. M. P. S. D. Herath ruled out any major flood situation as there have been no heavy rains in the North Central, Central and most of other areas. 

Director Department of Irrigation, Polonnaruwa District N. Krishnaruban said the reservoirs in the district have reached spill level, but there was no threat of any flood situation as the weather has improved.
