Referring to the report that police had raided an alleged illegal plantation which is called mal wagawa in local jargon belonging to NPP Ratnapura District MP Shantha Pathma Kumara few days ago, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ajith P. Perera yesterday said the former should publicly state the reason for the police raid.

“The MP should publicly state as to what kind of flowers he was cultivating as to why the police raided the plantation,” the MP said whilst highlighting that the police would raid a plantation  only if it was cultivation of  a certain kind of flowers which is illegal.

He said the law should be enforced on the ruling party MP if he had engaged in something illegal.

He also said Minister Nalinda Jayatissa should also make a statement in Parliament on the alleged importation of low quality medicines, alleged banning of these medicine and shortage of certain medicine.

“Some patients have informed us that the doctors in state hospitals request them to bring medicine from private pharmacies as the quality of the medicine given by the government owned hospitals cannot be guaranteed. He said the Minister should explain on the shortage of certain medicine.

“We still believe that Minister Jayatissa is not involved in the scam as we know his history. However we will have to think otherwise if the minister fails to make a statement on medicine in Parliament,” he added.

Furthermore the, opposition MP said law should be enforced on MP Asoka Ranwala if he had committed any offence. Also MP Perera questioned as to why action has not been taken against Ranwala despite it has been proven that he had lied about his doctorate.
