New anti terrorism bill is a Draconian piece of legislation: FLSP

The new anti terrorism Bill is a draconion piece of legislation as it gives powers to the President to ban any organisation, Front Line Socialist Party (FLSP) said yesterday.

FSSP Secretary Pubudu Jayagoda said it will be the defence secretary which could sign detention orders." Defence Secretary is a political figure. Therefore the law enforcement will be politized by the new legislation" he said.

" Another important factor is that pushing the government to do certain things is considered as a crime as per the new anti terrorism Bill. In such a scenario lobby the government to amend or cancel the agreement with IMF would be considered as a crime," he added.

Also he said the police will get the right to examine any mobile phone under the new legislation.
