By Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama

A total of 223,423 motorcycles have been registered so far this year, making them the most registered vehicle category in Sri Lanka, the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) announced.

DMT Commissioner General Kamal Amarasinghe said that registrations recorded between January and November also include 55,338 cars, 13,850 three-wheelers, and 35,268 electric vehicles across all categories.

He noted that the surge in vehicle imports and registrations has enabled the department to exceed its annual revenue target, collecting Rs. 17.8 billion against the expected Rs. 16 billion as of November 30.

With the Treasury setting a target of Rs. 18 billion for 2026, Amarasinghe expressed confidence that the DMT is fully capable of meeting the new goal.
