By Kushan Jayawardene
A 14-year-old girl and her mother died, and two others in the family were seriously injured when the trishaw transporting them veered off the road and toppled near a culvert at Wannammaduwa on Anuradhapura – Galkulama Road.
The mother Sandya Syamali Herath (41) and her daughter R.K. Dinithi Sathsarni Karunaratne (14) died on the spot, while the father and nine-year-old son were seriously injured and admitted to the Anuradhapura General Hospital.
Police said the ill-fated trishaw driven by the father had veered off the road and toppled due to excessive speed.
Galkulama Police are conducting further investigations.
