Man arrested in Galle with Ice worth Rs 22.4 million

An individual who had in his possession a stock of Methamphetamine (ICE) valued Rs. 22.5 million was arrested by the Galle Division Crime Investigation Unit during a raid in the Akmeemana area in the early hours of yesterday morning. The 32-year-old suspect was a resident of Anangoda in Galle and the father of two children. A Police team on night patrol in the area questioned the suspect who was frequenting the road in the early hours of the morning and found a 50-gram packet of ICE in his possession and later searched his house to find 1.5 kilos of the illegal intoxicant.

Investigations revealed that he had been carrying on the contraband trade for a long time. OIC Crime Investigation Unit CI Chinthaka Panawala, SI Jana Sri, Sergeants 13215 Batuwatta, 31958 Rohana, 35490 Sisira, 38877 Amila, 73036 Indika, 77147 Jagath, PCs 86226 Sandaruwan, 34664 Niroshan, and 13446 Weerasinha had carried out the raid.

The suspect was to be produced before the Galle Magistrate yesterday, and police were to move for a detention order to question him further.
