Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Mohammad Bagher Ghailbaf in a letter addressed to Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne hoped for a new year where both countries could contribute effectively to enhancing international dialogue and developing cooperation grounded in mutual respect and shared interests.
The letter states the following:
I am delighted to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Your Excellency, the esteemed members of your Parliament, and the noble people of your country on the occasion of the auspicious and blessed birth anniversary of Jesus Christ (peace be upon him), the great Messenger of God, and on the advent of the New Year.
In an era when the world faces complex challenges and rising tensions, the imperative to strengthen dialogue and foster convergence among the Abrahamic religions, drawing upon the teachings of the great Prophets — which emphasize peaceful coexistence, justice, and the preservation of human dignity — has never been more pressing. Such efforts can play a pivotal role in promoting mutual understanding and constructive engagement aimed at reducing tensions in the international arena.
It is my hope that, in the New Year, through the advancement of peace, stability, and strengthened constructive interactions between the parliaments of our two countries, we may contribute effectively to enhancing international dialogue and developing cooperation grounded in mutual respect and shared interests. I avail myself of this opportunity to wish Your Excellency and your colleagues in Parliament continued health, prosperity and success.
