A group of individuals posing as irrigation officials had felled and taken away several teak trees in the Kelani river reservation at Asokarama Road in Bomiriya in Kaduwela.
Nawagamuwa Police said they initiated investigations of the incident on complaints received from the Department of Irrigation and Nawagamuwa Divisional Secretariat. A senior police official said a group of individuals wearing badges similar to those of Irrigation Department officers who entered the river reservation had felled seven trees and taken away the logs on last Sunday (31). He said a stock of logs and the excavator used by the suspects had been left at the scene. The police said the suspects were yet to be arrested.
