Nanuoya Police said that eight houses have been destroyed after a fire broke out in a set of line houses in Somerset estate in Nanuoya, Talawakelle.
Four houses have been destroyed completely with four others partially damaged and as a result 37 people of eight families have been displaced.
The victims are temporarily staying in day care centres and library buildings of the estate.
Estate workers said that a large damage was avoided, as they had put out the fire together with the police.
Many properties of estate workers have been destroyed and the cause of the fire has not been revealed yet.
Nanuoya Police and the CEB would conduct investigations with regards to this incident.
